Thanks to Jeny Staiman, the knitting world now has a bind off stretchy enough to suit any situation. If you've avoided toe-up socks or trembled as you bound off necklines (wondering if your head would make it through), fear no more. Jeny's ingenious technique will solve your problems forever. Her bungee-cord-like bind-off even hinges at the knit and purl changes, to thrill the perfectionist in you.

  • This is so helpful! Do you have it in written format so I can take it traveling with me?

    Thanks!

  • @pjcharbie You can find it illustrated and written in my latest book, PERSONAL FOOTPRINTS FOR INSOUCIANT SOCK KNITTERS. Try your local yarn shop for the book, or Amazon.

  • Hello Cat

Thank you so much for this video. You make it so easy to understand. But I do have one question............... can you do this bind off with only knit/purl stitches or is this only for ribbing?

  • @tinaeinars1 If you have just stockinette, use the appropriate YO (reverse before knits, or regular before purls) and work that way to the end.

  • ok - its stretchy, but how is it at staying up? The one thing that drives me nuts about handmade socks is that they slide down and bunch on the foot as I wear them ... any hints on how to stop this bit of fun? I'll still make socks ... wear them & share them ... but I'd love to solve this little problem.

  • Your socks slide down and bunch up because the leg itself is too loose. You need fewer stitches and/or a tighter gauge. The leg itself needs to be snug around your leg, and then it will stay up beautifully.

  • Thank you for posting this video. I was knitting a toe up sock set and I have been having trouble with getting the k2, p2 rib bound off stretchy enough without being too tight or too wimpy . Elastic and yet snug. I hate tight ribbing and also the reverse saggy sock tops. Just awesome.

  • why, this is surprisingly stretchy!

thank you so much for sharing this genius approach. i'm going to use it on a cowl i'm finishing today!

  • MY LIFE HAS BEEN TOTALLY CHANGED

OH MY GOD I PRAYED FOR BO'S THIS AWESOME

I CAN'T STOP USING CAPS I'M SO EXCITED HOLY CRAP

  • WoW no more strangling sock bind-offs! I loved my hand knitted socks until I had to bind off! I always ended up with them being to tight, so I'm in sock heaven with this bind off! thank you so much for sharing it with us!

  • This is my third time using this bind off on an infinity scarf. I LOVE it! Thanks again to Cat and Jeny!

  • And just used this method again for a bell sleeve cuff, in lieu of a "loose BO". Perfect on all counts!!!

  • The BEST stretchy bind off eVAR! Just finished a pair of socks, tried them on, WoW!

  • Wow. Talk about making something easy, you did. Thanks. I just finished off a pair of socks using this tecnique.

  • Thanks you! I have been looking for a truly stretchy bind off and this is it! I using it right now on an infinity scarf I knitted for my daughter. You and Jeny ROCK!

  • Thanks so much! I am making the swirl sweater pattern from the book you wrote and this made it perfectly clear how to do the JSSBO. I adore your book and making the sweater is so much fun!
