With the second round of voting set for 27th June, anyone known to support the MDC or to have voted against Robert Mugabe is in real physical danger.
Violence towards opponents of the ruling Zanu PF government increases every day. Hundreds were beaten while "an estimated 31 people were killed...and tens of thousands intimidated and forced from their homes." Many now seek sanctuary in the MDC's headquarters in Harare; but for the staunchest opponents of the regime there is no safe haven. With their few possessions they flee to neighbouring countries and wait for the violence to end.

  • Rhodesia was super. Zimbabwe inherited from Rhodesia everything an African country can only dream about: commercial agriculture that produced every possible grain, fruit or vegetable, even resin, diverse and well functioning industry, developed network of roads and railroads, cities' infrastructure, schools, hospitals and civil services...

And squandered it all. Nothing works. So who is to blame? Of course colonialists and world imperialists, who else? Not yourself, precious.

  • It took Germany and Japan 20 years to raise from aches of WWII. It took Russia 20 years to recover from the collapse of Soviet Union. During past 25 years Zimbabwe not only did not improve, but actually wasted all reserves and human capital. It is not due to lack of time, it is due to ZANU Marxist experiments and lack of grey matter in Zimbabweans who support him.

  • Zimbabwean dollar and us dollar are equal in 1980 but now ????why??????who's benefit ????? who is the devil?????? zimbabwe you have been played by economic HITMAN . Do some research about how the economic HITMAN work, protect yourself

  • they wanted independence---they received independence

  • @whiteozzie1 It's not about tribalism it's about race. You are talking about a continent with a history where race was brought into politics, and people where oppressed of their race. The may have been better as Rhodesians but they were under subjugation. The fact that you boast about it says a lot about you. They were bound to develop a sense of nationalism and lash back. It was bound to blow up in their face.

  • @kesomox , yes i agree with what you say, some of the things that the whites did over there was truly wrong, i an not disputing this. But back in those days thats just the way it was, i am not condoning their actions! But the fact still remains, tribalism should not be brought into politics!!! In Rhodesia blacks and whites lived together, some better than others but this is to be excpected because of the time. There were poor whites aswell! Fact is that they were better off as Rhodesians!!!!

  • @whiteozzie1 The people deserve adequate stake of claim. White people understand that concept all to well it was they discriminate. In Africa they discriminated, subjugated and oppressed to gain wealth at the black africans expense. Maybe in your ideal little world it is okay to have a society where a marginalized demographic's general attainable opportunity is subservient labor. But that majority will not accept it. If blacks where treated as equals the continent would be a different place

  • @kesomox Is it africa for africans or, africa for black africans only? Yes blacks are the majority this is true, but to prosper as a nation, to grow, they must first do away with their tribalism, and they wont, hence the trouble that plagues them! The white man done away with this along time ago and look how he has flourished!!! We have a better way and understanding of how to govern. Until black africa stops their tribal hatred of each other they will always fail to govern themselves!

  • @whiteozzie1 Everyone knows Mugabe was a tyrant.

They had the good of the people and the country in their hearts first and foremost? no they had good of the country in their hearts FOR THE GOOD OF THEMSELVES. This may be acceptable in western countries where discrimination and marginalization of blacks is ignored, but that ideal can't perpetuate there. Africa for the Africans. It's how it has to be. Blacks are the majority there claim on stake has to represent that or conflict arises.

  • @kesomox , yes actions do speak louder than words. The actions of mugabe speak for themselves! You cannot hide the facts of what was once a great country that was going forward, for all! There is racism in all cultures no matter what, but this was not the policy of the day! They did not have apathied like sth Africa, they new better than that. There will always be a few bad apples in the barrel!!! But in general they had the good of the people and the country in their hearts first and foremost!

  • @whiteozzie1 I was not making this a debate about White supremacy i just mentioned that point. But sure, The system was clearly in interest a fully realizing and incorporating the natives into society by taking away their land, diverting the resources away from their interests, while marginalizing them. talk about a crock of shit

I really could not give a crap what that guy had documented, actions speak louder than words. The conflicts and tensions arose because of a screwed up, unequal system.

  • @tryanjohnson ,Well said mate!!!

  • @kesomox ,white supremacey??? What a crock of shit! This is not a debate about that crap! And nor do i beleive in it! Please read up abit more about Ian Smiths vision for and his memiors of Rhodesia. I know that the zanu and other communist/maxist people would have you believe this tripe, but please do yourself a favour and have a open mind and eyes and do some more research on this subject. The blacks were always going to get into politics, but only when they were ready for such responsibility

  • @whiteozzie1 You keep praising Rhodesia it says a lot about you. Do you not realize how time and time again the government kept on screwing the locals over the British over land and resources? But i forget some people honestly still believe supposed to be embracing of such conditions. A white supremacist system would never thrive in a black majority state. It was bound to fall They would have weathered the storm better but there is no way it would have stayed strong under those conditions.

  • @kesomox , Maybe, but at least they would of ''weathered the storm'' a bit better that what mugabe and his cronnies are doing! Going around killing your own people and creating havoc is not a good way to govern a country that is under great strain. Yes, conditions were different and so were the sanctions back then, but the spirit and the energy of the people was so abundantly high, i believe that they would of made it in todays world. What a pity we will never know!

  • @whiteozzie1 Those sanctions were not as severe and the economy was very different back then. The economy Mugabe ran was more the western idealized foreign investment leveraged capitalist economy remember he was not always bad and followed western conventions, it was probably the reason he was loved before. For some reason later on his stance changed. You are naive if you think that Rhodesia would have stayed strong had conditions been the same.

  • @kesomox , Yes, the sanctions are severe, but remember, Rhodesia also had sanctions as-well after the declaration of independence, but they made it, until they got fucked over. Ian Smith ran a great country, what a pity the Zanu-pf and mugabe has utterly destroyed it!!!!

  • @Znaika1 when you talk about Zimbabwe's economy falling apart the least you can do is mention the severe sanctions.

  • The UN mandates 'National Socialism' as the 'Hope and Change' for the world. You are witness to their sucess. Now it is coming to a nation near You, maybe Yours. Hang on, it's a wild ride and depends on Slaughter to achieve it's goals. Zimbabwe is 'Fair and Equal'. Except some are More Equal than others...

Capitalist Rhodesia was Prosperous (before it was disarmed). Too bad the world fell for the hype of the 'Twisted Pistol' (UN's trademark).

  • i feel shame for africa president, all of them

DAKSOUM LE STATOIS BURKINABE A LOS ANGELES

  • @Znaika1 Our Prophet does not speak except the truth:

"..............The Second: They (the Romans [i.e. Christians/Whites]) are the quickest of people to revive after a calamity."

  • Mugabe is the lowest form of animal. Whites will return and make Zimbabwe a better place. All Black racists must be isolated and destroyed.

  • @AmericanPowerBase dude clearly you are the ignorant ass here you do not know what you are talking about nor do you even know my stance or views on the politics of Zimbabwe.
