They solely function to make money. Simple.

Or maybe people could get off of their asses and try some parenting?
Teach your kids what's healthy and what's not, and trust them to make the right decisions. Don't expect others to parent your kids for you.

How about get your child off his ass and get some exercise? Parents make the choices, not these companies. I ate my fair share of these products as a kid and I'm perfectly healthy 24 year old. Its called sports, and playing outside. We would make a game out of kicking a can as a kid if we were bored. Now my 13 year old cousin sits inside all day playing xbox. Parents are to blame.

It's true some junk food ads are misleading, but you just need to read nutrition values to know it's mostly fats and sugar. Tbh if a child has a healthy nutrition at home and makes excercise, I don't see any problem with eating some sugary cereals or drinking soda once in a while.
Having junk food in schools is horrendous tho... since school has responsabilities on the children they should give healthy food in cafeterias...

ONLY DRINK WATER AND PURE FRUIT JUICES = ALL YOU CAN EAT + DONT GET FAT.
Thats how it works for me but then i also don't eat obscene amounts of candy / fat food, i don't like it that much lol.
But seriously, you are all in control over what you eat.
Check the labels whats in it , research it, drink WATER WATER WATER WATER.
Water is the most healthy beverage ever.

Just feed them egg whites and oatmeal. You'll turn your kids in to smart killing machines than can do 100 burpees and get a 1600 on their SATs.

"You hear a lot these days about how big food and beveridge companies have our kid's best interests at heart."
I hear VERY FRIGGIN LITTLE about how parents take responsibility for raising a child.
It's not just TV - they go into schools, place products in movies, and put advergames online - you can't shied children from EVERYTHING! Sure, parents can refuse to buy these foods (until kids have their own money), but what kind of society lets an industry actively and deliberately WORK AGAINST parents?? Do we let cigarette or alcohol companies market to children and then tell parents "don't buy these for your kids?" That would be stupid - and so is letting food companies market to children.

while it may be the parents job/choice to decide what to buy and what not to buy, they shouldnt have their parental authority undermined by (b)million dollar ads targeting children, it promotes consumerism from cradle to grave.
