  • What's the movie at 4:30?

  • @Priestica606

    It's Izo.

  • Miike is an acquired taste, like bubble teas and sushis... But once you get used to his style, there's no turning back. Ichi the Killer is such a flashy film it's hard to compare to the rest of his work. Maybe you should also try Visitor Q, Happiness of the Katakuris and Izo. They're quite good...

  • Ok. is Miike pronounced mea kay or mee key? I got two different pronunciation comments. Sorry for the previous spelling error. I know his name is Takashi. ;-) Thanks for your help.

  • mee key... im pretty sure thats how Tom Mes pronounces it and he's a Miike scholar. I think I've heard it pronounced like that elsewhere too. But between mea kay and mee key, that's better than most of the other ways people pronounce the name.

  • How is miike pronounced? I hear the other part of his name takeshi prononounced but not the miike part.

  • Actually it's takAshi and then Miike is pronounced mee-key

  • My only favorite Miike film is Ichi the Killer, Gozu is weird, Audition is boring, it's the ending that gave it some spice

  • To pronounce Miike as the Japanese do, it would be 'me' [like the English word, but with a slightly longer 'e' sound] and k as in the letter 'K'. So, kind of like Mee K.

    Here's a general guide to Japanese vowels as they relate to English:

    a -> sounds like 'ah'

    i -> sounds like 'e' as in 'me'

    u -> 'oo' as in 'food'

    e -> 'eh' as in 'may'

    o -> 'o' as in 'show'

  • thanks. so mee key wins 2 to 1. i love his work
