This 1914 rag was the last by Scott Joplin published during his lifetime. Here it is played on soprano ukulele.

I decided to learn this after hearing a video of Virginia Tichenor playing it on piano:

I worked it up from free piano sheet music provided by the Mutopia Project:
http://www.mutopiaproject.org/cgibin/piece-info.cgi?id=441

This piece has its own Wikipedia article:

Oh, and if you want to hear a nice duet version of Magnetic Rag played on tubas, try

  • Delightful! Wonderful! Magnetic, indeed.

Perhaps now's the time to put in a request, if I may?

I'd love to hear you play Joplin's "A Real Slow Drag" on the uke!

  • Thanks. I'd like to learn "A Real Slow Drag", it's a beautiful number. I'll look for the sheet music. So many tunes, so little time.

  • great living space

  • fantastisch *****5

  • you are really good, and you give the ukulele a great range, you should special order one with more frets, because those notes sound strained

    but still great, i respect

  • Wow, I could never have imagined that I would get to hear this piece played on the Ukulele!

I'm learning it on the piano and have been listening to performances of it here on youtube, and this video just came up today =D

It was really good, although the high notes sound funny on that little instrument.

  • whaha, very cool, those bends give it a bluesy mood too

  • That was great! I love Magnetic Rag; I never thought I'd see it played on a ukulele!

  • Great! Surprising AND very musical!

  • masterful! I never knew you could play that far down there (on the fretboard). I only go to the space below the 12th fret if I'm desperate, for obvious reasons!

  • I wish my refridgerator upright piano magnet was that good!! 5 degrees of ragtime magnitism..and here's to living a ragime life!!

  • There is a book with the complete compositions of Scot Joplin.
