Shannon Campbell recovery at the 2011 Ultra4 4 Wheel Parts Grand Prix race at Glen Helen in San Bernardino, CA.

Gilbert, AZ -- Shannon Campbell/Team Monster Energy heads to Glen Helen Raceway for the last race of the Ultra4 Racing series. The 4Wheel Parts Ultra4 Gran Prix race format was a 4 hour endurance race with a one hour break half way through. The course was 4.8 miles and utilized the motocross track, short course track and the great mountains and canyons of the Glen Helen Park. Friday morning Shannon Campbell and Team Monster Energy headed out to practice and qualifying. Having crank case ventilation problems limited him to 5 practice and qualifying laps. Working late into the night with the help of Allen Nemo and his guys from Extreme Performance, they found the problem and made the repairs. Shannon received a late night call, finding out he had the fastest qualifying lap, putting him on the pole for Saturday morning's race. Campbell took the green and ran with it putting a 90 second lead over 2nd place before the first red flag. Deciding to take fuel on the red put Shannon towards the back on the restart. Slowly moving through the pack, trailing the dust of another competitor he missed a turn sending him off into a canyon of no return. Thanks to the help of the Ultra4 competitors, staff of the Glen Helen Park, Dave Cole, his brother Nick and everyone who donated tools and straps they retrieved the car with all wheels intact and Campbell returned to the race. Shannon was asked how he felt about the penalty and he said, "I'm ok with it, I don't have anything to loose-I'm going "Mad Max". If that wasn't enough excitement 3 laps into the 2nd session Campbell lost front wheel drive making it harder to work his way through the traffic. Coming through the motocross track passing a car over the table top and connecting tires sent Campbell into a barrel roll, he landed on all 4 wheels and without missing a beat took off again. Not quite making it to the podium but having fun trying Shannon said, "he would take a 7th place finish anyday". With a never say never attitude and the best parts in the industry anything is possible.
