  • Perhaps it's because they were busy doing interesting 'acrostics' that they came in late and flat! If the microphone is on the video camera - as it seems is the case - then the transept is possibly the worst place from which to make an audio recording. However, it's clear that it's not just a dynamic issue here, the choir is initially ropey. Have to second Bubba on that.

  • @Sgorpahdiye Read the above.

  • Continued. i have never seen a person walk out on a performance at the liverpool cathedral and i don't think i would should you be watching this performance ether.

  • I remember the days before the girls choir, a very nice version however i believe this music is best suited to the boys choir not the girls. and in response to bubba68086 having sung (and sung this very solo) myself in Liverpool Cathedral i can tell you that the acrostics are a little interesting to get the hang of, and i believe the reason for the overpowering organ is the positioning of the recording devise. overall a rather heart warming performance, and in response to Sgorpahdiye-read next

  • If I'd been there, I would have left in the second sung note. The men's intonation -- particularly that of the dominant tenor -- is just awful. The treble soloist is good with a nice purity, and the treble section is good.

    They stand up well.

  • A curious offering, this. I have performed this marvelous piece for 40 years, and just couldn't warm up to this rendering. The organ was aggressive and strident at times, and the singers didn't seem to grasp the piece; that may be due to not being used to the out-of-control reverberation in the building. Sorry, but 2 stars (out of 5) at best.
