Well ,Again This rare opportunity to compare the great maestros,Both are honorable,While Illayaraja attracts Indians towards Tamil songs,A.R.Rahman attracts the whole world's attention.There is no second opinion about their genius because they both have proved their potential.
The music legends AR Rehman and Ilayaraja may not be compared to each Other at all.Long live their names as long as Indian music lives!.But If there is No need of comparison from where this type of Question arising?.there is No need to Rise this type of Question Other than Tamils bcos both belongs to Tamil,Even though We have Best Answer for It ! If this legends not comparable to each other defiantly they are comparable to Genres Bcos Both Belongs to WorldMusic,Both Obtained degrees from Trinity College of Music, London in WesternClassical.From this we can compare Only A.R.Rahman is The Best..Bcos He gave the recognation to Indian Music WorldWide from Roja .As early as His career begins He satisfied whole Inidans not Only Tamils&.Now tell me Whos is real Hero?Both Won peoples Heart in TamilNadu but But Raja Got Earlier! What the point u are trying to prove here , If IR is not known out of india , He would never have been allowed to compose a symphony in ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA . Many Indians do not know John Williams , So AR Rahman is greater than John Williams in film scores ??? , I don't know when this sick comparison will end , I love Ir music and i listen to it , in the time u wasted to make this video u could have listen to some good music of ur taste :(

To all those who compare the musicality of these two great legends..how many oscars & grannys & recognitions u people have got to critisize these 2 legends' music??? When u critisize someone u should be on top of them..U guys dont even know to make music or may be 0.001% of their capability..By the time u compare and comment on their works, learn some music and try to enjoy their works with some musical sense rather than simply listening to the tracks and commenting on it blindly as u listen!!

but on the other side, Raja is a mountain, he is unreachable. he is the maestro.. listen to Panivizum Malarvanam or ''Anthi mazhai'' ..you can die listening to those. literally. legendary orchestration and soul-stirring compositions

I am the fan of the Both. But ARR is next to IR. IR is the best to bring the feel of the emotions in this composiing. Just Listen any of Nayagan or Dalapathi (Tamil movies). ARR is talented, I agreed. But his sound mixing and track mixing is copied from MJ. He followed MJ style in track composing. any of you say ARR is better than, Listen MJ track and ARR track. Ultra copy from most of the English albums , especially Drums track, any rhythemic instrument track. ARR is next to IR.

the western Youth do MJ to win the idol or talent contest. The kids in India, today, sing SD's and Ilayaraja's to win the contest. Since the children sang only Ilyaraja's song only they brought in this new rule of singing one Ilyaraja and A R Rahman. Even Kamal has said "The greatest musician still living is Ilayaraja, Period" He Referred to SD and RD as masters. The entire film and music industry knows that Ilayaraja is a maestro and everyone comes after.

I respect Rahman. But can he ever be compared to SD or ilayaraja who have not seen Oscars. Almost the entire crew, all britishers, with the "Slumdog" Rahman (Wait Wait - dont get angry - the director meant it as "underdog" when asked about it- and Iam right in saying that Rahman was an underdog (slumdog), being an asian, for the Oscar). People in the west love to hear and see the tales of poverty of the third world. Even Rahman will agree he scored better music. Total Indian production-I wait!
