Rumi is Persian, from Iran Afghanistan Turkey, from the Middle East, he belongs to all and no one country or culture as all great historical figures, they belong to humanity. But one thing can be said is that the region he comes form is a special place of human spirituality and enlightenment. The birth place of Judaism Christianity and Islam. Moses Jesus and Mohammad are not only for and from that region, neither is Rumi.

Mr Cyrus2060,
This is a common misconception among Irani Nationalists that only Persians bloomed under Islam.
There were many Arab, Turk, Indian and other Minds that flourished under Islam.
Ibn Rushid (Avorreos), an Arab philosopher is considered one of the greatest philosophers of all time.
Abul Qasim (Abulcasis), a Syrian Arab, is considered by many as the father of "modern" surgery.
There are many others who were Turks, or Indian or others etc. Please educate yourself.

Mr. Cyrus2060,
Throwing some random insults and foul comments doesn't change the fact that Rumi was a Muslim. There are many poetry & works where Rumi praised the Prophet (s.a.w), the Sahabas.
There's a saying by Rumi -
"A Sufi is holding onto Muhammad(s.a.w) like Abu Bakr(r.a)"
Rumi also wrote extensively on Dhikr (the way to remember God in Islam). He was a devout Sufi Muslim, and very open-minded, there's no doubt about it.
Only ignorant people claims otherwise.

"I am the servant of the Qur'an as long as I have life. I am the dust on the path of Muhammad, the Chosen One. If anyone quotes anything except this from my sayings, I am quit of him and outraged by these words."
-- Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi.
He was a devout Sufi Muslim and its very evident by his poetry and works.

He was born in Afghanistan and died in Turkey! WHY do you have a map of Iran, and is sunni
xtremeownage1 4 years ago
Rumi's fame is because of his poetry not because where he was born and died. His poetry was in farsi(persian)secondly at that time Afghanistan was part of Persian empire which is todays Iran, thirdly it is true majority of Iranians are shia but there are also sunis, jews, christians, armenians live there.
