People from http://dejanseo.com.au developed a viral video called "Giant Stars" which shows you how little our planet is compared to some of the biggest stars in the known universe. We did not go as far as the biggest star, which leaves room for imagination and new discoveries... for more information, video credits and interactive flash visit: http://www.giantstars.de

  • pebble?....pebble?.....we are less than nothing in this universe! the human mind cannot even begin to fathom the sheer size of the universe, who knows? maybe even god, yes, GOD, lives somewhere out there!

  • @DB8ed Now I'm glad you bring up the "pebble" part. For two reasons, actually. Firstly, "pebble in the sky" refers to a book by Isaac Asimov. Google it, and read it - it's lovely. Secondly, your comments is not about VY Canis Majoris and I thank you for that.

  • This video was cool, and then it started sucking when they didn't show VY Canis Majoris.

  • @itstonymacaroni I know. You guys keep reminding us of this every day.

  • @analogikdotcom Well you have to admit it's kind of ridiculous to talk about "Giant Stars" and then leave out VY. That's like supposedly talking about the "Best Basketball Players of All Time" and then not even mentioning Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James or Wilt Chamberlain.

I'd really like to see you guys redo this video with a few changes. Use the same great graphics and explanation, but add VY and use a side-by-side comparison so people can actually grasp scale.

  • @sonicskilz Yes you're right, thought if I do that then I will have to update the video every time new giant star is found. I think we'll focus on doing something new instead. Any suggestions?

  • Betelgeuse are larger than Antares! Betelgeuse's size can cover up the entire Jupiter's orbit while Antares could only engulf the Mars! This video is flawed BADLY!

  • ¿VY CANIS MAJORIS?

  • Legal, mas investiram tanto trabalho para procurar estrelas... mas e dai, que que eu ganho com isso!

  • VY Canis Majoris. Enough said.

  • @analogikdotcom You could add "at the time of this video (maybe mention the year) this is the biggest known star". It's easy for people to forget about the "we used to think, but now we know" issue with science. Or maybe add an annotation to that effect. That'd be the least amount of work.

  • I have to correct you, it's not Sirius, it's Sirius A.

  • and VY Canis Majoris?

  • @DB8ed God's probably a fake, but yea, MAYBE. Pfffffff
