Major General W. Cubitt CBE inspected the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Regent's Park, London on 19th April 2010. Here are a few clips from the proceedings including parts of their famous 'Musical Ride'.
The King's Troop are Her Majesty The Queen's ceremonial Saluting Battery and are stationed in St John's Wood, London. Known as 'The Troop' they are a mounted unit and all of their soldiers are superb equestrians trained to drive a team of six horses that pull the First World War 'thirteen pounder' state saluting guns. They are an integral part of the Household Troops. Their duties include the firing of Royal Salutes in Hyde Park on both Royal Anniversaries and State Occasions, and providing a gun carriage and team of black horses for State and Military funerals. The Troop performs the duties of the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards for one month each year. St John's Wood is home to 111 horses. King's Troop men and women are trained as fighting soldiers.

  • What's the tune from 5:11 onwards,please?

  • @fojaak It's The Post Horn Gallop

  • What's the role of the trooper's with the lances?

  • @HMservant They move into position to mark out the boundaries and important reference points used by the teams during their display.

  • @HMservant But historically speaking, would they be in charge of correct gun emplacement or something similar?

  • @HMservant I think that historically speaking, they would not exist. I believe that they are only for the purpose of the display.

  • Nice to see and hear the mounted Bugler playing - I wonder if that was the source of the Gallop call at 5:11 onward? Good job Bugler!

  • @spainter100 Yes those guns are the battery of the Kings Troop RHA. But the guns last saw service in WW1 and the unit is a ceremonial unit. "Just as the mounted troop of the Horse Guards. Although al are trained in their role in the artillery and no doubt if required could effectively serve on the front line with modern guns.

  • would one shut up the bloodie royal dog

  • Excelent

  • SHUT THAT DOG UP.

  • Good to see the band playing the "Garry Owen" which is the official march of my former US Army unit, The First Cavalry Division. Having been in the First Cav Artillery, I especially enjoyed it.

Way to go, Royal Artillery !

  • @troopingadmin Thank you for the very quick reply, Troopingadmin.

  • Great clip of the King's Troop RHA and nice to see that the clip starts with the BCs Trumpeter sounding "Draw Swords" at the mount.
