Brian Brown of NOM flustered by questions about his funding, at DC gay marriage hearing

Brian Brown of the National Organization for Marriage at the DC City Council hearing on the legalization of same-sex marriages. Brown argues that heterosexual marriage is a rare ''human good'' while gay and lesbian unions are not the same, and that heterosexuals are best for children. Then he insinuates that he and others with such hetero-is-best beliefs are victims of unfair ''bigot' labeling. Later, after extensive review of his organization's funding and the questionable behavior of its board members, Brown insinuates that he is then the victim of ''religious bigotry.''

I'm amazed how the prop 8 folks have twisted this around to portray themselves as victims while working to harm the welfare of countless gay people and their families. The fact is that the violence and hate is coming from the anti-equality side, not the other way around. Notice how Brian Brown absolves himself of the statements calling for the destruction of the government, but then holds all gay equality people responsible for a few isolated incidences of yelling or defacing a building.

I find it amusing that around 4:20 when asked to provide a donor, he denies it because it wouldn't be fair to be treated differently than other similar organizations. Yet somehow he doesn't get the parallel to gay marriage and straight marriage being treated differently, even though they're the same basic unions. (two unrelated adults joining together in marriage)

Bigot is as bigot does.  Per, Mr. Brown, "Breeders" feel "special" and above everyone else. Laws should be enacted to only allow the definition of PROCREATIVE heterosexual unions as "marriage". All others would be the same as same-gender/same-sex relationships non-reproducing unions. Perhaps that should be the direction the arguments should be going, taking away all "special" rights from non-reproductive couples.

The research confirms what modern biology tells us, which is that humans, like other animals, engage in marriage for the purpose of pooling resources in order to maximize the development of their children (specifically one parent to care for the children and the other to provide for their sustenance) who will be able to themselves reproduce; therefore it is the pooling of resources by two individuals that maximizes the success of children and gender is not relevant.
