Part of a camera test with the Panasonic HMC 151 AVCHD handycam, shot and uploaded at 1280x720, so best watched with the HD viewing option.
It was the middle of winter ("bitterly cold" - for England) when I had a weekend loan of this camera, so I set it up outside and used the remote control to operate it from indoors. The pre-record buffer was very useful, allowing me to press the record button after I spotted a bird arriving, but capturing the previous three seconds too. With a tape-based, which unlaces the tape after a period on standby, I would probably have missed the first 5-10 secs after the bird arrived, whereas with this camera it was easy to capture the arrivals too!

  • nice video, but the leaves are green, how can it be Bitterly cold?

  • The large shrubs you see in the background are euchryphia and aucuba, both evergreen and in full leaf during February when it was cold - it snowed later that day!

  • ok lol...maybe im just de-sensitized from Canadian Winters =P

  • Fair point - I wasn't thinking in global terms, just in the context of mild English weather.

  • nice. what editing software did u use?

  • Premiere Pro CS4. Unfortunately the current version (4.01) doesn't support Panasonic's AVCHD files in 720-50P mode, which is what I'd used for this shoot. Hopefully this will be fixed in v4.02 (due April?). So I had to convert the files to DVCProHD format, which is anamorphic, before exporting from PremPro at non-anamorphic 1280x720, so that will have degraded the horizontal resolution a bit in this sample. I'm waiting for the fix before I upload any more AVCHD samples.
