An interesting point, but Ratty wasn´t in his right mind, he was somehow spellbound. What if the seafarer had taken him into danger or what if the spell had stopped somewhere on the sea?
I would have been curious as well what could have happened if Ratty had gone with him, but my gut feeling was against it ;-). Anyway, a strange, but beautiful episode, and at the end Ratty regains his usual state of mind.

I don't get this. Here everybody has been telling Ratty about following their instincts to prepare for winter, and when Ratty decides to follow HIS and head south for new adventures, they freak out and stop him! MAKE UP YOUR MINDS, YOU VERMIN!

Was Jack May in any other episodes? Oh well, I now have the box-set so I guess I'll find out!

@ultimateMacgregor Yes, he's a very self-centred and somewhat over-blown character but there's genuine affection for his friends which always shows itself. He's definately not an unpleasant character at all.

@ultimateMacgregor sorry my bad...I meant to send it to perfume1965....sorry agian...
-
@Hanakomiko What are you talking about? I think you've sent this message to the wrong person.

@ultimateMacgregor sorry the episode was Winter Haunts...sorry for mistake but in both they were sitting in Toad Hall and talking so I got confused
-
@perfume1965 it seems tp be so....he once said in another episode the one when Toad got crazy about bulding and architecture that his anscestors were seafarers or something like that merchants and that they all heard 'the call of the sea' at some points of their lives...so maybe that was that he didn't listen to his 'longing'...but it's only my guess...

this one has a tragic feel for me
back when i decided to leave my stagnant town for a better life, some of my family and friends tried to hold me back, as Mole and Toad stop Rat
i followed my "sea rat" anyway, and my life has been so much better because of it
however, many of my friends who remained in that petrifying tarpit of a town now regret never giving their dreams a chance, and now, it's too late for them
i have never regretted following my dreams, but Ratty lost his chance -- so sad!

I'm pleased with the way Toad was immediately ready to help Mole. That's one his best qualities, he cares a lot for his friends.

i love the magic in some of these episodes... this one, the one with pan, the one with the 'weasel who watches'....all magical
