@williukea minako became mina because it was short form of minako and in sailor v manga everyone called her mina even if her real name was minako
haruka became amara because... i dont know why
michiru became michelle because its softer form of michiru
setsuna became trisha (trista in some pages) because... i dont know why
hotaru is same
and chibi moon became mini moon because they were afraid that english kids wont understand the name "chibi" and in japan chibi means small (mini)

@rockerjewell not only hotaru has same name in both versions and the bad-guys has almost same names just few letters changed for mostly of bad-guys but few got all different names
Usagi became serena because of a short form of serenity
mamoru became darien... i dont know why
chibiusa became rini because usagi is serena and in both she is short form of her mom
ami became amy because it was similar name
rei became raye because also name
mako-chan became lita because it is short form of lighting

@rockerjewell Look at it this way: Serena is the 'short' form of Serenity, which was her princess form. While the Japanese versions had Usagi and Chibi-Usa, they wanted to differentiate the two in the Elgnish versions, so they called Usagi Serena and Chibi-Usa Rini...to avoid confusion (considering Chibi-Usa is 'small Usagi') They did that in the manga too, calling Usagi 'Bunny' or 'Buns'
