On February 12, 2008, Iolani Palace celebrated the 125th Anniversary of the Coronation of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani, who were crowned February 12, 1883. The event included a ceremony with historical recreations, music from the Royal Hawaiian Band and St. Andrew's Choir, a 21 gun salute from the Navy Region Hawaii Ceremonial Guard, and a speech by Princess Abigial Kawananakoa.

  • @mamoahina My grandparents were sent to Kalaupapa as they were plagued with leprosy. It is said that they were injected with leprosy by haole doctors to affect their land holdings in Maui and Hawaii Island. Alika was the mule I rode to the colony down the pali years ago. Yeah, it is clear you are very knowledgeable... I am interested in picking the minds of a variety of masters such as yourself.

  • @SaveChinaTiger in honor of my grandparents i selected "MolokaiAlica" as screen name as Kalaupapa is on Molokai, and the mule I ride down the pali is named "Alika"....

  • @SaveChinaTiger Thank you for your points. Maybe as the queen said in her diary, "I was dispaired by my overthrow, but now I see that annexation was the best for my people." As you said, clearly, "In the end all Hawaians pledged allegiance to America." It was ashame but my maternal grandfather and grandmother are said to have been injected with leprosy and sent to Kalaupapa. They lost access to land holdings in Maui and Hawaii.... apparently set up with malicous intent.

  • @MolokaiAlika In the end all Hawaiians pledged allegiance to America. I;m just looking at their chiefly blood qualification.

  • @MolokaiAlika Maybe I'm wrong to speculate but my point is the effectiveness of the foreign policy of Hawaii when there was a clear lean toward the British than the Americans. The British had a chance in the 1840s to annex Hawaii but nobly chosed not to. And ss we all know it was America that anneced Hawaii, and if you removed that American control with having a part British Queen than we might see an independent Hawaii today or a Japanese colony. Depends

  • @mamoahina Aue, listen to SaveChinaTiger, you might learn something and hopefully you will discontinue jumping to conclusions. @SaveChinaTiger oh by the way, inspite of what some say in here, I am Native Hawaiian and I would qualifty under the Akaka Bill as to the definition or criteria for a Qaulaified Native Hawaiian Constituant (QNHC), about half of the people who claim to be Native Hawaiian would not qualify under this Akaka Bill QNHC criteria. Just FYI. Malama pono, e SaveChinaTiger.

  • @SaveChinaTiger Since David Kawananakoa and his brother pleaged allegeance to the Territory of Hawaii underthe US; they would have surrendered their rights to ascendancy to the throne, as they would be considered tradors to the Kingdom of Hawaii due to their plea of alleagence to the USA senate. What do you think. Again thank you for your thoughts and your elaborations on HRM Emmalani.

  • @SaveChinaTiger Yes I am aware of this mahalo for your fair and balanced comment. However, Prince Kuhio in about 1910 appeared to have betrayed the Queen (Liliu) when he attemped to have her considered mentally incompetent in court in order to control her land holdings and circumvent her plan to establish her trust for the current day Hawaiian Children's Center. Also, Kuhio as you know became the second deligate to DC after Wilcox and he pleaged an allegence to the USA; foregoing the throne.

  • @SaveChinaTiger That's correct. Q. Emma & her husband didn't favor the Americans as much. But what does this have to do w/ anything? I think you misconstrued the entire argument that Alika was trying to imply. The argument was never about who Emma & Alexander Liholiho favored, that we ALL know. You're only stating the obvious.
