My first try at a MIlky Way Time Lapse and Star Trail Trails

This time lapse consists of 700 total exposures, it is about 5 hours worth of shooting and editing took me about 15 hours, just doing the trail took me about 10 hours with my old computer for this simple video (I wonder how long it takes the well produced ones).

Settings:
Canon T2i (550d)
Tokina 11-16mm 2.8
Exposures: 25 seconds every 2 seconds
ISO: 1600

  • @vladvv850 yes no problem, like you said the first time, shutter speed set to 25 seconds then pause for 2 seconds and repeat!!

  • It may be a stupid question, but could you please clarify: Exposures: 25 seconds every 2 seconds means you took a shot with the shutter speed set to 25 seconds then pause for 2 seconds and repeat? Or did you take a shot with the shutter speed set to 2 seconds than pause for another 23 seconds then repeat?

    Thank you.

  • @goldwarmachine thanks man, the trails were actually the difficult part of the video,I used a free program called starstax and what you do is stack photo 1 and 2 then go back and do 1, 2 and 3 then go back and do 1, 2, 3.....700, or however many pictures you have, and it takes a long time.... now once you have all the files you can put it together with picasa and than is the easy part.

  • Awesome job man!

I am considering buying this same camera, and doing time lapse photography, especially at night. I'm especially curious about how you did the trials, did you stack the photos with photoshop or another program? Did you use the same program for both "products" (timelapse and trails)?

  • @TomSandwiches91 hey never thought of that... Will try it out!!! Thanks

  • If you played the trail in reverse it'd look awesome.
