Chris Barber in 1954. This is a better
recording than the last effort. It is from the EP shown, the previous scratchy
version was on old 45 single, backed by Bobby Shafto.

  • Many thanks for putting this on youtube.

    -a great number.

It's years since since I've heard it. I would go to Barber concerts in the 50's/60's. Such a long time ago

I believe that Chris and co are still playing-remarkable!

    Many thanks again.

  • Thanks for that Cicero, it was one of my favourites in the '50's, a good one to trad jive to.

  • I had this on an 78 in the mid fifties. bobby shaffto and martinique. i lost sometime during the early sixties, and never heard it again until now. I am gobsmacked. It is among my alltime favourite records. As a bit of info, Wilbur du Paris wrote Martinique, along with majorca, madiera, and madagasca, which he called the four M's. Long live Chris Barber!.

  • I found it after such a long long time - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Listened this great piece of music in the 60s - I owned this record but of a sudden lost it - now its back! THANK YOU!! Hans
