  • why do those idiots even code the videos to 10bit ?

what kind of player can play them ?

  • @igor23ba

Media Player Classic which comes with the Combined Community Codec Pack can play 10bit MKV files on it's own. Afar as why they encode to 10bit... It affords the same video quality at slightly smaller file sizes.

    -Thanks for Watching

  • can this be used to convert a 10-bit mkv to mp4. I know most converters have quality issues when you try and do it.

  • @colin8696908

Yes you can, however you would than need to find a way to re-mux the audio and video back together. MKVtoolnix only works for MKV's. You can try AVI-Mux. That might work. Do me a favor ad let me know if you have any sucsess.

    -Thanks for watching.

  • @igor23ba As GeneralNerdery says, you can use Media player classic which this program comes in many packages. I don't use CCC Pack, I use k-lite mega codec pack.

Anyway, you CAN also use VLC but not the latest one. One guy reports he used a previous version to 1.1.11 and 10bit works. I use the nightlies version which plays fine. Nightlies version is unstable and a experimental version but still works fine if you like VLC.

  • This goods advice, thank. but note this start today, do not download xmedia recode version 3.0.8.0. use lower ver than this. there some bug that make this video won't work.

  • thank you for the advice

  • Very informative, thanks!

  • @GeneralNerdery Media Player Classic actually decreases video quality unlike most other players, so there really shouldnt be a need for 10bit with the exception of file size difference for some people.

  • Hello, I'm Currently handbrake and MEGui too reencode 10bit to 8bit, your video is very informative because it bugs me when Handbrake and MEGui bugs out on reeconding 10bit videos when it has an audio, but reencode just fine when there are no audio..

btw, I tried this XMedia reencode and it CANNOT reencode some high10p animes on very high bitrates, it just output a gray video..

  • @colin8696908 vlc hahaha but no, im going to stick with mpc.

  • no I'm pretty sure you can. there's not really a big difference between the two, so it's probably your video player's fault. you can ether download the cccp codex, or the vlc nightly build to play 10-bit properly. actually I believe the new vlc should be coming out soon so you probably don't even need the nightly build. needs to be vlc 1.2 or higher.

  • @GeneralNerdery but people with old computers cant play 10bit, i can play 8bit fine on my netbook but its horrid with 10bit. i think people are now encoding 10bit just to look cool.

  • What about for mac?
