@PufferBluntman Not quite. The cartoon you're thinking of came out about a year and a half earlier and bears only a passing similarity.

I poorly worded my last comment. I did not intend to slam the American GI. I just noticed the umbrella bit and thought of Chamberlain's umbrella--one of the icons of the build up to WW2

This one does seem a lot like Hell in the Pacific, but in the movie both guys get killed when the Navy shells their island. Interesting that the music includes a litle bit of Tiptoe through the Tulips. I don't know if a GI watching this would sense from seeing Snafu with an umbrella any reference to Neville Chamberlain's umbrella from the Munich conference days.

@qbzzt I was wrong. They made this in 1945, with the war already mostly won. Probably the army didn't need the to produce any more training video - so they went back to their peacetime occupation of making funny cartoons.

It was later re-made starring Bugs Bunny with some new gags if I recall it correctly.

@marxyouth I saw it, but this is a military training cartoon. It does not teach anything related to winning the war, except maybe "if you win you can take some spoils".

@qbzzt Maybe that the fact that the americans toke some spoils of war. Didn´t you saw Snafu polishing the officre´s katana?
