A Bridge to Peace

Since 1969, more than 160,000 lives have been killed and an estimated 2 million people have been displaced in the Mindanao conflict. As tension escalates, some clamor for an all-out-war between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. Peace workers urge an all-out-war against poverty and ignorance for a more lasting peace.

In partnership with the Mindanao Peace Partners, VSO through Deputy Dominic Hannigan TD sought to present the parallels of the Northern Ireland peace-making experience and the Mindanao peace process to end the Bangsamoro conflict.

The Peace Worker is a joint-project between VSO Bahaginan (Philippines) and VSO Ireland as part of its Parliamentarian Volunteering Scheme which aims to inform and influence the Mindanao peace process through advocacy and lobbying with local and national players in the pursuit of lasting and sustained peace in the island.
