To commemorate what could be called the Year of the 29'er, Specialized took the opportunity at Roc d'azur to show off its entire line of 29'ers - from the women's Myka 29er entry level hard tail to the World Championship winning S-Works Epic 29.

  • i am the type of person who really appreciate technology, but i got a noob question... why 29 but not 30 inch? or why not 28 inch? which bicycle company started with this new standard for 29 inch? i don't mean to offend anyone i just want to learn. thanks!

  • @lyclycsms Google "Sheldon Brown Tyre Sizing" and you'll find an article on his website that provides all the info you could ever hope for on tire/wheel sizing.

  • Still not compare with the Ibis Ripley

  • @lyclycsms it's 29" because the original idea was putting road rims to a mountain bike and they are 29" just because of the extra area that the mtb tires give to the wheel, but the rim's got the same measures than a road rim.

  • @SuperFunder Thanks!super helpful comment. i jsut got into mountainbiking. got a 2010 rockhopper comp and with my progression i could see myself in a better bike maybe even next year. checking out the options

  • Twenty-nine, not two nine.

  • there already is a few i believe. try googleing it

  • @myridingmower they don't need as much travel (they usually have 80mm as opposed to 100mm on xc bikes) since the large wheels have a larger profile, lower angle of attack. this causes the wheel to roll smoother, not needing the full suspension. as for all-mountain/freeride, 29er's aren't popular in that category yet, but some exist, and they have about 140-150mm forks
