The Flying Toys Team visited Old Warden aerodrome on the 7th & 8th May 2011 to celebrate the lives of two good friends and much loved personalities from the model trade, David Boddington and Ron Moulton, during the recent Memorial Weekend.
Significantly held at the home of the Shuttleworth Collection, that has always been a favourite haunt for both aviation fans, featuring over fifty airworthy classic planes.
The AR.Drone's sophisticated computer controlled technology contrasted well with the oldest operational full size British aeroplane in the world, the Blackburn Monoplane first flown in 1912, and with the traditional free flight rubber powered planes that shared the runway.
Many different types of models were represented including simple free flight aircraft, scale helicopters and a Jet turbine, with a fly past by a full size Lancaster proving the highlight of the Sunday.
The weekend served as a great reminder of what aeromodelling is all about, meeting model enthusiasts that share our hobby and enthusiasm, plus many old friends.
