Friday 2nd March, at approx 1pm we had a huge storm start up. This video was originally 10 minutes long, but has been cut down to just over 5 minutes for uploading, and was filmed on a webcam between 3pm and 3:30pm. Next time, I will use the digital camera and catch the sound of the thunder as well.

  • Oh man, I miss Darwin weather sometimes.

The heat didnt matter that much because everyone had airconditioning and pools ahha.

But these storms were always brutal and fantastic.!

  • I'm a Darwin storm chaser and please believe me, lightning does make sound up close! 0.0

More of a pop/buzzing sound with an instant sharp almighty CRACK!! It doesn't appear to 'rumble' like strikes 300+ metres away due to distance, acoustics, resonant frequencies, etc..

  • oh yeah i discoved that when lighning strikes close enough it doesn't make any sound, it's almost like the shock wave hasn't had enough time to propigate.

  • i'm a darwinite,

ive been in 2 houses stuck, a house across the road from one stuck, about 30 mtrs from a goal post stuck, been within 100mtrs from strikes countless times. If you love lightning this is the place to be.... during the wet if our weather doesn't get anymore weird.

  • I would love to see Florida in the rainy season for a holiday though. :)

  • Florida: 13 strikes/square m annually.

Darwin 22 strikes/square m annually... With Half the rainfall! :D

    Gotta love Darwin! :P

  • Why are you watching it then? :)
