The United Kingdom's entry to the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest.
CoCo - Bad Old Days
One of my fondest UK favourites - a jovial and beautiful number with a terrific arrangement and performance to fit it - the colourful set-up only contributes to its playfulness. Yet somehow, it managed to become the UK's worst showing at the contest at the time, placing only 11th out of 20 entries - and this made only the third time the UK had even found themselves outside the top-5. Then again, the juries were only human. ;) And the audience in the Palace of Congress, as you can hear, absolutely loved it, giving it one of the night's biggest cheers.
Keep an eye out for Cheryl Baker (who would win the contest as part of Bucks Fizz three years later), in the wedding-like gown.

  • True. This is one of the best songs from UK. But it seems that the juries didn't want to have fun in our country !

  • Cheryl Baker is giving it what for in her "Flash Gordon" costume...

This should have done much better than 11th!

  • @claudia39c No it was just rubbish

  • @toinoou03 No its not the best

  • the drummer is a good friend of mine ,anybody knows him ,tell him to get in touch, fon

  • this is really good.. only just discovered this uk entry. great one! xx

  • Maybe this was a bit old fashioned even for 1978?

Clearly inspired by "Let me be the one" UK 1975, and even "Rock bottom" from 1977 - and of course by the whole ABBA-style of the 70'es.

Still, in retroperspective, a place in top 10 would have been well deserved.

At least better than the spanish entry that came on split 9th place (due to 12 points from Denmark...still wonder what that danish jury had for breakfast)
