  • Fuck, I think I'm gonna go on a diet, just to get this guy's approval. Seriously.

  • I want to walk like Jonathan Meades.

  • @olywood9 I can't decide which is worse; your flagrant hypocrisy or your excruciating lack of reticence.

  • Let's get this straight. Meades is an insufferable pseud who uses words and turns-of-phrase that were considered archaic and pompous back when Fowler wrote "modern english usage" over a hundred years ago. He does however give good format, that is, he knows how to piece together each shot like a self-contained art exhibit. And as far as aging art-objects go, he is admittedly far from the worst of them.

  • @theeyeoftheduck I once tried a DFMB a few years ago. I got about 1/7 the way through it before my arteries threatened industrial action.

  • Love Jonathan Meades! So glad to find this channel!

  • I think he just underestimates how indifferent the British are to food - he describes it as self-loathing but there's very little self-loathing in UK culture.

The Brits who eat junk food don't hate themselves, they just don't care at all.

  • showing a war cemetery and saying that the British can "die" is such a dishonour for the brave soldiers who gave their life so that this guy could make this movie in English and not German!

  • @kernel2006 good choice

  • Lindsay Anderson

  • Who's the filmmaker he shows in his list of examples of things the British can do?

  • he's 'missed out' machismo. We don't even dress properly in winter in this country, or (guys) wash our hands after visiting the toilet- to generalise in Meades style. He's great though, you always get style and substance watching a Meades, and it always interesting to see which there's more off.
