Aaron Copland scored "The Heiress." Director William "90-Take" Wyler was grateful. At a test screening, audience laughed at de Havilland in a pivotal scene. Copland wrote music, and next time, audience made not a sound. Also: English actor Ralph Richardson (who played father) was not as famous as colleagues Alec Guinness and Charles Laughton, but IMO Richardson was just as gifted. "Joy of love lasts but a short time. Pain of love lasts all your life, all your life." Ah, l'amour!

@n0iwont One can well understand the fact your father hates your guts as do most people who have the misfortune to know you in real llife. You;re a waste of life. Now please, go away and never return, you are not wanted here or anywhere else. Cunt.

One can well understand her father's contempt and frustration with stupid Catherine
who has been given every advantage and lesson and yet she's still thick and gullible.

Boy is he psyching her out. He knows just what to say. He's cute but makes me mad in this he's such a good actor. Sir Ralph Richardson is cruel but he has Morris' number for sure.

This is one of Montgomery Clift's best films. It's criminally underrated.
