Over 20 years ago, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield challenged conventional thinking and sought to create one shoe that could meet the needs of an athlete who may train across multiple activities. Worn by world-class athletes Bo Jackson and John McEnroe, the Nike Air Trainer ignited the athletic training boom and became the centerpiece of a new sports category: cross-training.
