i feel i've wrecked my dog's heeling by using a toy...though i really appreciate his keen attentiveness, i can not stand that rocking horse stuff...i'm scared it's gonna get us in trouble when they judge the BH and if i am ever able to continue on to a schH 1........ : (

  • I absolutely love the attention. I would try hiding the toy in my back pocket or underneath the back of my shirt and then reward for something spectacular. Don't keep it out in the dog's view; it should be a reward for a good behavior and not a lure. I would start heeling and if you get 5 seconds of no "rocking horse" pull the toy out, reward with play, put it back and try for 10 seconds. Just an idea! Again, love the attitude and attention! keep it up!

  • yes, i agree and i have been working soooo hard to undo this problem. i've hidden the toy, i've left the toy behind us and chosen to release him when his heeling is to my liking so that he actually starts to "hang back" anticipating the most efficient place to access the reinforcer....it ain't workin' out : ( i think i'll need to do MANY miles of reprogramming. but more of going back to food (except, then the intensity isn't the same... : ( i've discovered that holding a ball near my waist

  • gives him that focal point at a better location to keep him more in heel position. previously (when i created all this problem!! LOL!!) i was postioning the toy under my arm. he's sooo conditioned to start all that forging and rocking even with no toy there! it's crrrrrrrrazy!! it's my stride and the context (open fields) which push his buttons too, and he just goes into auto pilot. i'll be workin hard to try to fix it, but i also don't want a new problem!! LOL! thank you so much for your

  • help and thoughts! btw....how is YOUR BABY!?? i hope he's feeling better and back home!!! i'm wishing him WELL! and i hope you're hangin in there too!! : )

bridget will be here next month! wish you could come!
