Lately MR63 trains have been appearing on the Orange line, but I don't think I've ever seen one needed on a Sunday morning. I also saw this same train going back home in the evening.

  • Some MR63 can even clean the tracks with the air

  • @MrPingypop12 There is an MR63, well, prequel to the MR63 that does just that! The Vacuum Train takes care of the garbage and cleans the tracks.

  • @sylvie606 Exactly! I've heard the same thing as well. Back in the 1990's when the trains were rebuilt, the suspension was left intact. Now it would cost too much to replace the suspension, so they won't change it.

  • @alyr315 From what I've been told and read in other places, the MR-63's are "bouncy" because the suspension is shot... they are 1963 metros after all...

  • @alyr315 When the trains were brand new, they didn't even have ventilation on the roof!!! They had no air circulation whatsoever! And they had to add it in afterwards when a driver was involved in an accident after he passed out from heat stroke! Now all driver's cabs have AC, and they added air fans on the roof and removed the windows in those middle doors and allowed better air circulation, but it makes it much louder!

  • @MysticMTL Yeah, you're right, I forgot this, because the MR-63s don't really have a ventilation system besides those raised vents on the roof of the car. If you look through the vent you will see those "turbines" spinning and that's what brings air into the car. MR-73s have proper ventilation, but no A/C. That's one thing I like about the TTC vehicles (subway/buses). THEY ARE AIR CONDITIONED. Montreal buses and subway are terrible in the summer.

  • @alyr315 Yeah, each motorcar operates independently, which causes the bumpy start up, and the motors are designed to turn on and off constantly while starting up so the train doesn't rip itself apart. And they replaced the windows in the doors with a metal mesh to help ventilate the train cars, so it does get kind of noisy.

  • @Maxsapd Those MR-63 are so shaky when they take off. A feeling where cars are hitting each other in opposite directions. And they are very bouncy when in motion. The doors you're not supposed to open to cross between cars, have mesh grill instead of a glass, so it's FUCKING NOISY in there. At least that's how it was when I left Montreal. I haven't used the subway there since 2000.

  • @MysticMTL SMOOTHER RIDE? You crazy? The MR-63 ride is such a "bouncy" ride. If smooth means less "CLICK CLACKS" of tracks, then yeah, but it's not smooth at all. MR-73 are a bit better, but still. I now live in T.O. , but the subway trains here are more "sound proof" and not as bouncy, just because of the fact they ride on steel wheels. T.O. trains are also heavier, which makes them less bouncy and smoother, but yeah you hear lots of "grinding" and they "squeek" when the train stops.

  • @MysticMTL quieter and smoother ? so it doesn't have that rickety subway feeling that makes a subway unique, like the one in Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago and New York ! regular subways can start and stop faster too ! did Montreal Transit ever try normal wheel trains in their tunnels ?

Toronto and the other 3 city's I mentioned also have grades and inclines, NY has some eof the steepest, yet their trains make okay for steel wheel trains.
