Traditionally, they are made of: * Tsampa (flour made from roasted barley) but ordinary flour and/or oatmeal may be substituted * water * oil or melted butter (if ordinary wheat flour is used, not necessary) * (optional: butter and food colouring for decorations)
Play-dough works well though and has the added benefit of coming in many colors!!
What is the torma made of? In the west we use Marzipan because it is also edible but it is not as easy to work with. It looks like these tormas are made from clay?
Stunning...such skill!

Traditionally they are made of Tsampa(roasted barley flour, a staple of the Tibetan diet) mixed with water.

For long-lasting decorative tormas one can use plaster of Paris, fimo, or modelling clay.

Either flour made from roasted barley, ordinary flour or oatmeal; water and oil or melted butter.

Nice video.
I watched Kyra Patterson make some No-bake Clay on You-Tube, would that be good enough to make torma's from?
It's made from cornflour, flour and water and seems to be of the same consistency as the clay that this man was using to make his torma's.
