My name is David Rothblatt. I am thirty-two years old and the very proud owner of Davids Elite Tennis Training. At Davids Elite Tennis Training we strive toward helping tennis students develop specific tennis goals with a written plan toward their achievement.

What are my credentials?

1. 1st singles for Oneonta State 1996-1998
2. #1 ranked junior in Long Island boys 18s in 1994
3. Played 2nd singles for Roslyn High School where I was on the Varsity Tennis Team from 1992-1995
4. JC Gold at the Port Washington Tennis Academy for three years (the highest level they place their junior players)
5. 14 years tennis coaching experience
6. Fully Certified with the United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR)

I learned at a very early age that anything worth doing is worth writing down. When I was a junior tennis player back in the early and mid nineties I always achieved greater successes when I had a clearly defined written goal and a burning desire for its achievement. The lessons learned as a youngster about writing your goals down have definitely stayed with me as an adult. I have implemented this concept of writing my goals down both on and off the tennis court for over twenty years now!!

When I was around 15 years old I noticed very specific weaknesses in my tennis game which were clearly preventing me from going to the next level.

These weaknesses in my game were the following:

1. My Footwork

Lets start with my footwork. My footwork was horrible!! I was a tall skinny teenager who was clearly not comfortable in his own body. I was very uncoordinated and making small movements in tennis was a great challenge for me. I worked twice as hard to get half the results other tennis players were getting. Bottom Line I was frustrated!! I studied videos on footwork and followed the advice given. I also started to eat, sleep, and breathe small foot movements on my toes every time I stepped on a tennis court to practice. Finally, my footwork went from a weakness to a major strength in my tennis game. The result of having excellent footwork on the tennis court took my entire tennis game to a whole new level once I mastered this crucial yet often neglected component of this amazing sport!!

2. My Serve

My serving toss was erratic and when I was in tight situations in major junior tennis tournaments it was becoming a major problem for me. Sometimes I would toss the ball 2 feet in back of me from the nerves of playing a higher ranked junior I was not confident I could defeat. Finally after speaking to dozens of tennis coaches throughout New York and Florida I found a system that worked for me to get the best result with my ball toss whenever I needed it. I had discovered that one of my mentors Anthony Robbins was working with Andre Agassi in 1994 as an unseeded player in the US Open. He was teaching Andre an NLP technique called anchoring. Anchoring is a system of changing our internal representations of our physiology in a moment and creating new results. I began to learn how to access my most resourceful states while serving and visualize my favorite tennis player who had a perfect ball toss while I was serving in tournaments. This technique also assisted me in unlearning all of the bad habits I developed while serving and relearning new ones which gave me the outcome I was searching for

3. Last, My Stamina

I desperately needed to have more endurance in three set tennis matches. In junior tennis sometimes you can play up to six sets in one day!! This is physically very demanding on the body even for a young person. I began to run five miles every morning at 6am before going to school and it really paid off in a very short time period. Within six months my junior ranking was starting to really move in a nice direction and I noticed that I had a lot more energy in three set matches even in extreme temperatures. Building up my cardio helped me reap more dividends with my mental toughness because I knew I had a very physically fit body that would not break down.

Finally, when I was 17 years old everything came together for me and I became the #1 ranked junior in the 18 & under division on Long Island. My hard work, persistence, and determination were really starting to pay off.

I have briefly explained to you all how did I achieved the #1 ranking when 18 months earlier I had no backhand, no serve, no footwork, and no physical conditioning??

Here are a few more brief details that I feel made a big difference in taking my tennis skills to the next level.

My father and my tennis coach definitely pushed me very hard yet I strongly feel what really did it was having a burning desire to become the #1 ranked junior in Long Island along with having a written plan for its achievement.
