Hey all you Zivic boxing fans -

my husband's dad was Fritzie's cousin. Grew up in Pittsburgh. I can tell you

100% that Fritzie was Croation NOT Serbian. Not that there's anything wrong

with Serbs - but the family was and is Croation. Never ever heard anything

ever about being Serbian. As far as Fritzie being a dirty fighter, all i can say is

he never bit anyone's ear! LOL

Look at Zivic's beautiful boxing stance.

Angott was a lightweight while Zivic was a full grown welterweight, yet Angott is the aggressor. Angott was an amazingly strong .ightweight (as Willie Pep found out.).

I was reminiscing after the topic of professional fighting came up in the office today. It took me to my childhood when my friend who was Fritzie's nephew and I would sit on the stoops by his house on 47th street listen to Fritzie tell us about his fights many a time. Not only did we hear about them we saw is recreation also. Then we would go into Stokans Bar on the corner, get a soda ( pop ) and look at all the photos hanging on the walls. His brother Pete had a Bar up the street also with pics

That is cool, I bet your family felt pretty safe when he was around. I've wanted to see Sammy Angott in action for years, Zivic deserved his reputation as a dirty fighter for sure. This is pretty awesome stuff. From a big Les Darcy Fan, cheers.

In case any of my relatives on my mother's side ever happens to read this, maybe one of the first things that comes to their minds (aside from the aroma of delicious Italian food, of course!) when remembering Grannie's old Hull Avenue apartment -- as it does in my case -- is the large, poster-sized black-and-white phot of Sammy Angott that graced the hallway wall on your left as you entered the apartment. :-)

Sammy Angott was my maternal grandmother's brother.

My grandfather (who would have been Sammy's brother-in-law) once told me that Sammy visited his sister's (that is, my mother's mother) 5th storey apartment in the Bronx accompanied by none other than Frank Sinatra. I've read elsewhere that for awhile during the 1940s or 1950s Sinatra did hang around with professional boxers. If so, it wouldn't be surprising if the New Jersey-born singer palled around with the Pennsylvanian boxer Sammy Angott!

Zivic is 100% Serbian. There is a HUGE Serbian population in PA especially Pittsburg. They bring Serbian flags to the Steelers home games EVERY time.
