A personal piece i made for the Dance For H.E.L.P Workshop, Nov. 07/09
Description:
My inspiration came from watching the news and seeing what was going on in the Philippines.
I also got my inspiration for this piece from a homeless man who i see pretty much almost everyday morning and night with a sign asking for some ...spare change.
For this piece i tried to portray a sense of hopelessness and struggle in my dance. I wanted to show that dance isn't just hitting the beats or getting the most intricate moves but also being able to "act" or to get a sense of what the song is about.
My idea was to get the dancers to not only to pick up my choreography but to also get everyone to dance outside of the "box" or their comfort zone. I wanted to push dancers past there limits and get them to feel what its like to be hopeless and in a struggle.
Hopefully you see what i was trying to portray in this piece.
