The second Nick stepped out of the plane with his bag swung over his shoulder, he inhaled the air around him. The fresh breeze of what he liked to call 'Home'. After being overseas for six long, devastating and horrible years, he was finally back home. Back in New York. In America. The crowd that surrounded the airplane cheered at the top of their lungs as they waved American flags in the air, throwing their arms up, welcoming their soldiers home. Stepping off of the steps proudly with a smile on his face, he watched as the men he had fought with, side by side, were embraced by family members. Little children squealed as they ran into their fathers arms, smiles as big as they could get. There were laughs, there were smiles, there were tears. Nick clutched to his bag tightly as his eyes raced through the crowd, looking for that one certain laugh, that one certain smile, and hopefully those certain tears he could instantly wipe away. But he didn't see her. He didn't see those brown pools of chocolate that were in her eyes, or the wavy chestnut hair hanging over her shoulders. He didn't see the smile he had waited six long years to finally see. He saw nothing. Nick was just drowning in others happiness as his heart sank. She wasn't there. Selena wasn't there.

Nick knew he should've seen this coming. Its been six years, and he still expected her to be there? Waiting to run into his arms like nothing ever happened? Even with all these thoughts, there was still that small sliver of hope that always lingered in the back of Nick's mind. There was always hope that she would be there waiting, running into his arms, him kissing her forehead and those soft, tender lips he loved. He hoped that he could hear the three words and eight letters that made his heart skip a beat, knowing she was talking to him.

With a heavy sigh, Nick shifted the bag over his shoulder to the other one as he began to walk home. Surprisingly, Nick was okay with walking home. That meant he got to walk through the countryside of New York. The green trees lining the streets covered the roads, making it shady and cool, a nice break from the heat. His deep brown eyes watched the scenery around him as he walked, embracing the thought of being home. After walking for about an hour or so, he finally came to the little blue house on the corner that was across the street from where he was. Stopping in his tracks, he looked up at it. It looked the exact same from what he remembered. There was still a white porch that wrapped around the entire house. Flower beds were planted in front of it as they bloomed red and yellow flowers. Big maple trees surrounded the little house, shading it completely. White rocking chairs sat by the front door, faintly rocking themselves along with the wind.

Nick stood there and watched curiously as the white front door opened, and out stepped the girl that had stolen his heart from the very beginning. Nick's heart began to race at just the sight of her. She was wearing a green dress that tightly fit her curves. Her dark hair swept down her shoulders and back gracefully. She held a thick book in one hand and a glass of lemonade in the other as she made her way to the rocking chairs. Gently setting the glass down on the side table next to the chair, she opened to about the middle of the book and began to read. She bit her bottom lip as her eyes caressed the pages of the book, intently into it. He smiled at the beauty across the street from him.

Hesitantly, Nick started to make his way across the street, the smile getting bigger and bigger as he got closer to Selena. He walked up the steps quietly, Selena still not hearing him. Leaning against the white post, he looked at her, thinking she was just as beautiful, if not even more, since he last saw her.

Her dark eyes lifted up as she glanced out of the corner of her eye at Nick. Taking a second look, she looked at Nick, her eyes widening, her jaw slightly dropping. The book she held in her hands dropped to the porch floor. Selena sat in shock as Nick stood in front of her, in uniform and all. Nick could see the tears glaze over her eyes as she slowly stood up and walked towards him. Her hand slowly lifted to his cheek as she placed it gently on his face. Tears started to leave her eyes and slowly down her porcelain face.

"Its really you, isn't it?" She managed to speak.

To hear her sweet melodic voice for the first time in so long sent chills through Nick's body. He put his hand over top of Selena's as he wiped the tears away from her cheeks. A small smile appeared on his face as he chuckled slightly. "Its really me."
