SYNOPSIS:
The Second Congolese War in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) caused millions of people to be displaced, and hundreds of thousands to flee across international borders. Tens of thousands of people from the southern province of Katanga fled south to Zambia beginning in 1999. These Congolese refugees were placed into two refugee camps where many people lived for close to ten years, and others continue to live today.
While an ongoing conflict sadly continues in northeastern DRC, Katanga Province has attained a strengthening stability and peace since 2006. After almost a decade of asylum, refugees in Zambia recently began to repatriate to Katanga Province to restart their lives with the assistance of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other international organizations.
This film documents the momentous and courageous return of thousands of refugees to DRC in 2009. They are returning to one of the most underdeveloped regions in the world and a country devastated by consecutive and ongoing wars. Despite the hardships they will inevitably encounter, the repatriates you will see in this film, and thousands of others, have found the strength to rebuild their lives, land and country by returning.
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO, WHICH PART OF CONGO IS THIS? I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE NAME OF THE TOWN.
