On 11/20/2010, Stanford won the Big Game. Cal Security attempted to prevent thousands of students from rushing the field. Several instances of unnecessary brutality resulted.

This video is indeed shaky, and it only captures one of these instances. It was difficult to get great footage in the midst of all the activity.

Before all of the students charged the field (which has become a yearly tradition at both stadiums by the winning school), Cal Security beefed up personnel on that sideline. A few of them could be seen pointing back and taunting the students, seemingly provoking an even wilder environment.

It is evident in this video that one of the students who was the first to break free was choked by security. That should not happen under any circumstances to either a Cal or a Stanford student - or to anyone - unless they truly present a danger to the security and the people around them. Many students were riot cuffed by Cal security and subsequently cut free by the real police officers.

The point of this is to ask: is this all really necessary? For the safety of the students, the players, and the security, there should be much better ways of handling these situations.

Students rush the field EVERY YEAR. There is no need for security to amplify a potentially dangerous situation.

  • @chunkybearcub137 why would this year be suddenly different? Also, this discussion should go way beyond Cal/Stanford rivalry. Rushing the field is something that happens in college stadiums big and small around the country. There is a lot of precedent on how to properly handle it. The physicality that was applied as demonstrated in this video and in several other instances is just unacceptable. Again, this is not about Cal/Stanford. This is about eople in "power" positions abusing students.

  • isnt stanford the number 6 team in the nation? heavily favored? why are they the ones rushing the field.. stupid.

  • @chunkybearcub137 Have you been to a Big Game when the students on either of the winning sides haven't rushed the field?

  • I saw this guy being arrested on the way out, but he had something in his possession and THAT IS why he was detained. End of story. Good try...

  • @Alexita2013 Not true. He was one of the first people to break the yellow caution tape they had put up. There were several other students who were also tackled and detained at that time. They were subsequently let go by the real police.

  • @MrMattslaughter Forrest Gump rushed the field and ran out too. Rushing the field and rushing out the field has always been an Albama Tradition since Forrest Gump. Just remember to eat Bubba Gump Shrimp when attending the Alabama Big Game. For Bubba Gump Shrimp is the main sponsor for Alabama's Big Game.

  • @jkromp Alabama would never rush the field. Just saying.

  • @killsanjaya apparently you forgot 2004: California 41, Stanfurd 6----even in this decade you've lost by a larger margin than Cal ever did.

  • I hope they strangle him again if he tries to rush the field at Memorial Stadium again. That is all.

  • @morsosky1 Yeah good call dude. They totally suck. They're only #4 in the country, just blew out a top ACC on national TV and are better than the the UCB weenies best teams in the last 50 years. haha. seriously, name a single kal team in the modern era that wouldn't get DESTROYED by this stanford team (they beat the weenies like rented mules in big game). kal sucks and so does their security...they will always be weenies.

  • hahahha, whatever furd sucks. they arent even that good this year

  • @shakti1080 to choking? tackle, push, grab, ... all thats reasonable. but choking?

  • @chunkybearcub137 they rushed our field last year... which was unexpected. and just because the odds were in our favor doesn't mean we shouldnt get the chance to celebrate a victory over our rivals too..

  • @AntiSlice Yep, for sure. Couldn't have been more than 10 other people. They were clearly trying to deter others from entering the field, but still.

  • @runnyc33 I saw that. He was one of the first people on the field, right?
