Well, don't you think that Dean has become what he is just because he lacks Cindy's love? It's common knowledge that men can't be successful without being supported and loved by their wives. I think Cindy never loved him at all. She was just thankful for his help and his being so kind to her in that difficult situation. But a bit later she realized she couldn't pretend loving Dean anymore though she tried to in order not to hurt him...
