  • It's not necessarily flutter that happened. The vibrations on the wing can be very easily results from any bump on the road or vibration resonating. It looked a lot like simple divergence in the end, though it is difficult to tell because there may have been some aliasing. Interesting anyway.

  • @bhsena bumps simulate turbulence if you like. The spar broke off due to flutter (not visible inside), later of course the whole wing was torn off due to drag forces.

  • @klykas Bumps won't simulate turbulence; they may simulate gusts if you like. I am just saying that the bumps will stimulate a very poorly damped system, and that the vibrations we see may have come from them.

  • @bhsena Ok, gust because I like :). The bumps and the poorly damped system surely helped to brake the wing, but it is the loose aileron which was mostly to blame for exciting the wing so much in the first place. I doubt that any airplanes have pure flutter without aliasing anyway. Here flutter broke the main spar , and the wing was torn away because the divergence if you will because it was not stiff system anymore.

  • your road is smooth ?

  • @CUONGVN01 Almost :)

  • @unclesara Dear Unclesara, I assure you this wing was never used on b747 nor will it be used on A380 :) There were no accelerometers in the wing to detect modes nor I did ground vibration tests. And if you look for science in youtube, I must dissapoint you. Question 1 did you see a wing breaking because of flutter? Yes. Was it more fun to watch than stiffness matrices or graphs from GV tests? Yes. This is YOUTUBE not "science" ! Please do not be confused.

  • @DiamondPilotDan I love blues, what can you do... :D

  • @mattnsim Thanks for watching ! :)

  • thank you for you fine example of flutter. What else would all the nay sayers need to know about it? I also like the way you disposed of the wing after it broke..
