Isostructural with corundum Al2O3. Fe3+ octahedra are brown. Individual gibbsite-like octahedral sheets (without the protons of course) are stack on top of one another, with the overlaying sheet filling the dioctahedral hole. It takes six sheets in the c direction to repeat the pattern. A key aspect is that Fe octahedra share faces. This is better illustrated in the corundum movie also on youtube. Where the octahedra
