This was late night, after the day of Occupy Oakland's general Strike. When some members of the crowd attempted to extinguish a barricade which had been set on fire at 16th and Telegraph, several other protestors tried to stop them.
I interviewed one protestor--I was reporting for KQED radio that night. All dissolve edits were done to shorten the video, missing sections last a few minutes each.
The tear gas fired towards the end of the video led to police re-taking 16th street, where Occupy Oakland had briefly taken over the abandoned Travelers building.

  • Some of these guys are too afraid of revolution shouldn't even be there. They should just leave.

  • Little do these protesters know that the smoke from the fire neutralizes the effects of tear gas, and also, it's a flaming barricade, and will slow down an assault from the riot cops. And thirdly, stop pretending that the police will only assault people if they're breaking the law in any way, haven't we all seen enough footage of perfectly peaceful & law-abiding protesters being brutalized? Their actions are their responsibility. WE do not make them shoot, taze, pepper spray, beat us. They do.

  • Why are they protesting? I know its against the govt. but why? New World Order? Illuminati? Why

No, they're protesters, probably mostly anarchists, but not necessarily, using a tactic called "black bloc". It's meant as a use for solidarity in demonstrations when in conflict against state & capital. If someone commits a crime but then blends back into the crowd it's hard for cops, even with surveillance to find the actual culprit. And not everyone in the black bloc is going to commit crimes either, it's a way to show solidarity in the conflict. Google it.
