Some of the Princess Singers and Dancers presented a short excerpt from their evening performance of a new production show, "Once Upon a Dream." This segment lasted less than five minutes, and took place on the Ruby Princess, Dec. 12, 2008 on the last night of a seven day western Caribbean cruise.
The excerpt was seen in the Piazza, and the full production show was offered at 7pm and 10pm in the Princess Theatre.
It's difficult to come up with a new type of production show that has universal appeal, and I think they nailed it with this one. It was a pleasant departure from the "Vegas-style" production shows that seem to predominate the repertoire on most cruise ships. "Once Upon a Dream," however, used state-of the art electronic video backgrounds, beautiful and unique costumes, great classic music and fine dancing, and an interesting "Alice in Wonderland" type of scenario. It also helped that the dancers and singers on this new ship really were top notch. It was a marvellous one-hour show to complete a magnificent cruise. Pity the 10pm show was half-empty, as many passengers were packing or went to bed early for the disembarkation the next day.
