Race Website: http://www.troopermanion5k.com/

Story - http://www.tv3winchester.com/news/headlines/89301742.html :
"Kevin Manion was only 27 when he when his life ended tragically.

Tomorrow Manion's family and friends are joining together to remember him and give back to their community.

they came up with the idea for the Trooper Manion Memorial 5K run because he was an avid runner.

All of the money raised will go towards college scholarships for local students who are interested in law enforcement.

Its starts pretty early tomorrow... but we got a chance to see some of the set up.

Virginia State Police Investigator Jay Perry and Special Agent Si Schiavone spent the morning assembling 125 race packets with Schiavone's mom Rosie.

The work was tedious but they say the cause is worth it.

"Kevin was a great person. A great role model, he also was an avid runner so this is a great way to remember him and help the community at the same time."

tomorrow is the second annual Trooper Manion Memorial 5K run at Winchester Regional airport.

Trooper Manion was killed tragically in the line of duty four years ago.

It took a few years for the pain to heal, but Manion's loved ones finally figured out a way to keep his memory alive.

Schiavone says, "We were sitting around talking one day about something we could do for the community and at the same time remember Kevin. We came up with the idea of doing a 5K race because we thought it would be a good distance to get a lot of people involved."

They did get a lot of people involved. Last year they had more than 150 participants and they were able to donate two $1500 scholarships to students at Sherando and Handley High school.

They are expecting more this year.

Perry says, "we hope to get between 200 to 250, we've had about 125 preregister for the race. Weather permitting, we should have about between 200 to 250 hopefully."

Perry and Schiavone say they hope to offer two additional scholarships this year.

A noble goal for a noble cause.

Schiavone says, "It feels good, Kevin's a true hero. He lived his life like a hero and he gave his life like a hero."
