Rear Admiral James A Watson narrates a brief history of the Coast Guard's marine safety mission. Tracing it's origin to the Revenue Cutter Service established in 1790, the Coast Guard has a long history of serving mariners by providing rescues when they are in peril, aids to navigation, such as light houses and buoys, ice patrol and ice breaking, mariner training, licensing and vessel certification.
