Me playing along with a Guitar Pro midi to the song Stratofortress by the band Stratovarius.

---------------------------

Why a GP midi instead of the actual song? Several reasons:

1. I play a lot of songs in many different tunings. Using GP lets me change the song's key instantaneously, so I don't have to worry about re-tuning my guitar every 5 minutes.

2. Many times there are discrepancies between tabs found on the internet and what's actually played in the song. Using GP, I don't have to worry about figuring out errors in the tab.

3. Many songs place a heavier emphasis on the vocals than the instrumentation. GP allows me to adjust the velocity of the individual tracks to make certain the instrumentation is the focus.

4. This is not meant to be any sort of show of skill, and is primarily for my own documentation, and showing to my friends. I have very little actual talent when it comes to playing guitar, and any shred of ability that I've acquired is solely through a ridiculous amount of hard work and determination.

---------------------------

This is a fun one. :3 I opted out of playing the lick at :33.. I can sort of do it, but it's very sloppy, and I didn't want to embarrass myself. Not that the rest of the soloing isn't sloppy. xD I don't think the whirlwind of notes high up on the neck is supposed to be tapped like that.. But I don't know how it's humanly possible to get those 32nd note flurries with just left hand legato. I still have a looooonnng way to go on this one..

I absolutely love harmonized sweeps. The sweeping in this is actually very simple.. Just three strings, Dm and.. Uh.. A# Dim7.. I think o.o Though, I think I'm playing it a whole tone lower than normal. A higher harmonized part joins in that I can't play, because this crappy guitar only has 22 frets ._. I miss my Ibanez sitting in storage down in Florida.

I use this song to practice my sweep tapping, since it's pretty much as simple as that technique gets. It's fast, a little faster than I can play cleanly, but when I slow it down it's great for helping me spot inconsistencies in my technique. I'll probably re-upload this later once I clean up the sweeps a bit more..
