Zouk actually originated in the islands of the Caribbean that have French colonial history attached to them - St. Lucia happens to be one of them. The people of these islands also speak French Creole, hence the reason why zouk is so popular in these islands.
This is Jacob Deverieux from Martinique--- his band is called Kassav--- Kassav is modern day manna in Martinique, Guadeloupe etc. Hence the name of his group.
Hiya 4oust...it's about Zouk being the only medicine we need!! Love love loving Kassav...some friends from Martinique took me see them at Au Zenith in paris, It's too bad that in the UK we mostly have just English-speaking music. It's truly our loss!! WAKE UP UK!!! IT'S A BIG BEAUTIFUL WORLD...and the music is great even if you don't understand the lyrics!!!
