@DancingRabbit52 Actually, I was there in April of last year. Yea, I agree, the Voodoo shops were just tourist traps, and overpriced at that. I did stumble on a nice Voodoo shop - Voodoo Authentica - that sold some exquisite dolls. I bought an "Oya" doll. I highly recommend it. I'm going back in October for Halloween. The shop is having a daylong "Voodoofest" on Oct. 31. Also, the Voodoo Music Experience takes place that weekend in City Park with several stages and tents. Check it out!
@Orishanla Ditto! April of 2011 for me. Voodoo Authentica was great! As was the Museum. Dr. Zombie's and Madame Vaveau's would have Ms. Vaveau turning over in her grave. There was also a small Voodoo Temple on Rampart that I visited was impressive.
@DancingRabbit52 While New York and my hometown of San Francisco are wonderful cities, New Orleans is "the" classic American city, blending different cultures to make it its own. We are so fortunate to have a unique city like New Orleans - it's simply "magic"! Can't wait to go back again.
Wow! I was there this April too. I guess i should put my video up. The museum was much better than the couple of so called Voudoo shops.
