Considering the fact you hadn't heard the song before it was done alright, just try to make the note changes a little more smooth and you may find that opening your throat a little more may reduce the strained sound

Speaking as a participant of this singalong, this was completely off the cuff and I'm pretty sure at least half the people had never heard the song before. So don't judge this as if it were a performance by a band - this is a guy with a guitar and three of his friends.

If you want to hear this song done properly, and believe me it is a very beautiful version, then listen to Woods Tea Company on the album This Side of the Sea. Sadly, theres only one video of them on youtube and it's a compilation video, but it does feature the last verse. Well worth buying the album. Also, if anyone has any WTC videos, please share them on youtube!
