Here she is testing hover stability of a Coaxial RC Helicopter modified by removing the flybar and adding a second swashplate for cyclics at the upper rotor head. Stability is maintained by using two rate gyros added on the aileron and elevator servos. The TX parameters were carefully trimmed.

  • hi EQmod:

I tried the flybarless on my single blade lama last nite. Looks like my GWS rate gyros are not quick and procise enough... the heli will lift off for 2 seconds, then start flipping all over the place then crash. Or maybe my gain setting is too high... I am not sure. Or maybe I'll need some better servos.

But it seems that the problem can be cured with the right electronics and a lot of patience... 5/5 for your efforts in tuning this thing to near perfection!

  • Check for proper servo-gyro direction. Servo should move opposite the movement of the heli's body on per axis.

Also for initial flight tests, make sure that the gyro is in rate mode and not heading hold mode.

  • That is crazy nuts! wow that is a lot of work but shows coaxials are more capable than many think. Some very trick flow full sized ones,

  • That is great . I love the idea.

  • Hey Dude, could you furnish a parts list? Pretty cool! I'd like to try it.
