Water issues are growing, in Fort Worth, boy are they ever. With a water project that started at $350 million, then $450 million, then $650 million, now nearly $1 Billion dollars, the city and county fathers (and their mother, U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger) are feeling the heat. Why? They called it a "Flood Control" measure to get Federal Funds, but flooding was never a problem. The truth was it was a way to build an aesthetic "river walk" water center to decorate Ft.Worth's biggest business establishments who spent a fortune lobbying for this. As nice as a "River Walk" for downtown Ft.Worth would be, many taxpayers are looking at the $1 Billion bill and wondering if the city, county and nation should really be spending this much for something that the voters never had an opportunity to vote for outright.

This is political pork at it's worst, not only did Congresswoman Kay Granger carry the ball for the (crossed fingers and a wink) "Flood" project, she then hired her son at a liberal salary somewhere between $140,000 to $200,000 (including expenses and perks), a bit of nepotism to keep HER on board and everyone happy.

We have asked, "Why doesn't the Regional Water Authority spend a fraction of this amount to create a new desalination water system, to create water supplies for Tarrant County on location without shipping it in for 100+ miles? Oops. Don't ask. They would rather spend a fortune and 15 more years building a new reservoir 100 miles away or pipe water in from Oklahoma (both are tied up by legal or logistical issues). They could produce water at 1/4th the cost right here with a desalination plant powered by renewable energy. But, heaven forbid that the water district use progressive thinking. They are still working on the bogus "Billion Dollar Flood Program" so the fat cats downtown can sip on Jack Daniels and watch young people walk or canoe across the Trinity during their lunch hour.

Here comes SUPERWOMAN, Layla Caraway, with brains, beauty, and experts with credentials a block long, asking simple questions such as: "Why?" "What is the cost?" "Is there a better way?" "Shouldn't taxpayers get involved?" "Shouldn't this be a transparent department?" "Shouldn't we have better planning on water issues?" "Why are decisions made by a group of influential insiders, behind closed doors, by people who seem to benefit financially?", AND "What are the ethical considerations about a Congresswoman selling taxpayers out with a fee of one billion, during a time when 1 our of 10 Americans don't have jobs."

Layla Caraway is the most interesting new political player Fort Worth has seen in years. Watch her.
